Do Create,
Photography, printmaking, curation.

Hi, I’m Stu Hansom and I curate, make photographs and prints.

My curatorial practice is research based, primarily utilising narrative enquiry to investigate provision of time and space for artists as well as value in artistic process and labour.  I am currently a practice-based researcher at Goldsmiths UoL following graduating with an MA in Curation Practices from Leeds Arts University where my research focused on an experimental residency model. I came to curation through my prior practice in photography and printmaking.

I also work with sound based media, in part due to my developing curatorial and creative production projects. I work part-time in software development to support my practice, my current role allows me to explore user-centred design and service design which contributes to my understanding of the exhibition-making elements of curation.
Prior to undertaking an MA studied American Studies at the University of Hull. My undergraduate degree allowed me to focus on modern and postmodern art as well as literature, cinema and gender studies. As part of this degree I also studied at the University of Washington Seattle for a year, where film and art remained my main focus alongside creative writing.

I returned to study in 2005, taking Graphic Design at Hull College of Art and Design, where I was also taught film photography 2004-2007, I learned screenprinting at East London Printmakers in 2008 and returned to photography at Leeds College of Art, 2015-17.

I have been involved with a number of creative projects since moving to Leeds in 2009. I am a co-founder of Aire Street Darkroom, a community-run darkroom recently established in the centre of Leeds. I contributed to the the Temple Works project over several years and set up a studio share on the south bank of the river Aire.

In 2022 I am collaborating on. a number of projects, collaborating with artists, designing exhibitions, working in film and film programming and a sound project with conviviality and friendship at the heart of it.

I’m always interested in collaboration, so please get in touch with me by email, stu (at) doprojects (dot) be.
